Behind the Artwork

Removing color from this scene revealed an entirely different flower. The leaves and petals became light, shadow, edge, and repetition, almost like a botanical tapestry. I was fascinated by how the familiar could become mysterious simply by changing the way it was seen. This photograph reflects one of the ideas at the heart of Magick Brush: there is always more present than the first glance allows. Beauty can hide inside contrast, structure, and the spaces between things. It is a striking piece for a room that welcomes contemplation, bringing graphic depth, drama, and a quiet invitation to see beyond the obvious.  For when we decide to walk in our own darkness we learn that we aren't following a light. We are the light and the bloom.
